Mark and his partner, Lane, purchased the 1900's home in central Connecticut in 2009. Near total renovation along with a small addition was required and after an unfortunate experience with the first builder they hired (a lesson to all to double check references before starting any project!) Mark and Lane enlisted the help of a friend, Craig Maiolo, and the magic began. With Mark and Lane's vision, Craig's talent as a builder and artist and a barn full of reclaimed materials, Sparrowood of Avon came to life.

Sparrowood is located in a charming, old-world neighborhood of well kept vintage homes. Windowboxes spill over with flowers. Giant oaks spread their arms to shade the avenue. Gardens bloom alongside tidy sidewalks, beckoning friends and neighbors to stop by and linger for awhile. Block parties, neighborhood tag sales, movie nights and holiday gatherings punctuate the calendar throughout the year.

Avon Mountain with it's landmark Heublein Tower can be seen from Mark's studio at Sparrowood. A right off the front porch and within easy walking distance is a multitude of fine restaurants, small shoppes and services. A short stroll to the left leads to hiking trails and an expansive nature preserve. Wildlife abounds among the woods, fields and ponds of the reserve. There's even a slow moving river with a Huckleberry Finn-like bridge, a rope swing, and a lazy-day swimming hole! Laura Ingalls Wilder and Mark Twain would've been hardpressed to write a more sublime backdrop for Mark's new home in Connecticut. And he couldn't be happier there.
