It was here, in the heart of the Rocky Mountains, that Mark developed a healthy thirst for adventure and lust for travel. "Nothing beats getting up at the crack of dawn, the sun just creeping over a snowcapped peak, to find a bear or moose browsing on your doorstep." Mark mastered a number of careers on his way to becoming a storybook author which include owning several retail stores, a bookstore and a wholesale supply business as well as managing several restaurants. He considers each position held to be valuable research for his present career. Currently Mark resides in the northwestern hills of Connecticut. His home, a humble cape known as Sparrow Hill, is nestled in the woods and overlooks the serenely beautiful Still River where it's not unusual to watch bald eagles, osprey, herons, beaver, deer, and yes, even the occasional black bear. Some of his favorite pastimes include "kayaking, hiking, biking, cross country skiing, photography, gardening and day-dreaming , but not necessarily in that order" and he maintains that it's his time spent out of doors that inspires his imaginative stories. Mark's former home, The Kimball Homestead, and retail business, Plain Folk, has been featured in various national periodicals including Early American Life, Independent Business, Country Home and County Living Magazines. Mark is an active supporter of children's literacy and enjoys visiting schools and libraries across the country to talk about his career as a storybook author and help inspire a love for reading in America's youth. In 2005 Mark was the featured speaker for The Storybook Gala, an annual black-tie charity event that helped raise more than $80,000 for the Connecticut Children's Medical Center. In 2006 Mark was a guest speaker at the Mazza Museum at the University of Findlay in Ohio which houses the largest collection of original children's book art in the world. Mark has been a member of the Riverton Merchants Association for fifteen years and is on the Board of Directors for the Children's Museum of Southeastern Connecticut. In 2006 he was an Honorary Co-Chair of the museum's major fundraising event called The Fairy Tale Ball and for Artraeous, a day-long art festival for children. Mark's first illustrated book, A Snowman Named Just Bob, has sold more than 250,000 copies since its release in 1999. Other published titles include Scarecrow Pete, A Snowgirl Named Just Sue, Twisted Sistahs, Everyday Angels, One Enchanted Evening (currently re-released as A Royal Wedding,) A Snowgirl Named Just Sue, Miss Sadie McGee Who Lived in a Tree, The Visit,Miss Fiona's Stupendous Pumpkin Pies, A Cricket's Carol,The Night at Humpback Bridge, Caleb's Lighthouse, Reindeer Moon, The Traveler's Gift, Teddy's Friendship Quilt, The Secret Santa of Stonington, Mr. Sparrow's Merry Fairy Circus, and two gift books, Chocolate Frosted Fingers and A Fistful of Dandelions. His newest book, The Annual Snowman's Ball, is scheduled for release in 2007. Mark's photography is showcased in a note card line titled Greetings from the Kimball Homestead. (Not all of the above mentioned books are currently available.) |

Mark Kimball Moulton was born and raised in Danbury, CT, where he worked on a fruit and vegetable farm for much of his youth. He believes it was the long hours spent in the fields that helped cultivate his active imagination and says he wouldn't trade that experience for the world. It's this rich imagination that now feeds his successful career as a storybook author. After graduating in 1977 from the University of Connecticut in Storrs with a Bachelor of Science degree in Horticulture, Mark accepted a summer position in Glacier National Park, Montana. |
